On Wednesday 28th June, as part of our topic "Beachcombers", we went to Filey.

The rain was relentless, but we put on our best smiles and had a great day anyway! We walked through the town, looking at the different types of shops they had, compared to Alwoodley. Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the lifeboat station, as it was closed. After an early lunch we headed for the beach to build sandcastles in the rain. The weather didn't dampen our spirits, and we finished the day with a lovely ice cream. The children were fabulous and didn't complain at all!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all our helpers. We couldn't have done it without you!

This morning the whole school was involved in "The Great Get-Together." This was just one of a huge number of events around the country, held in memory of Jo Cox, who was a Yorkshire MP. Parents and Grandparents were invited to a coffee morning in school, and the pupils all had juice and biscuits together, sat outside. Thank you to Mrs Allan and friends for organizing the event.

This half term we are having an extra PE session with the sports coaches. We will be trying lots of different sports in these multi skills sessions. This week we were trying hockey, and had to concentrate really hard to control and move the ball around the gates.

It was harder than it looks!

School Council Elections

School Council Elections 1

On Thursday 8th June we held our elections for next years school council representatives.

As you can see we had lots of prospective candidates, all of whom presented a short "manifesto!" The whole class cast their votes in the afternoon, and our 2 successful candidates,  for next year, were Finn and Loretta.

Congratulations to both of them, and well done to everyone who took part.

We had a wonderful day at Harlow Carr Gardens on Tuesday. We became animal detectives for the day, looking for the different minibeasts that live in the gardens. We went on a minibeast hunt in the woods and then did some pond dipping. In the afternoon we made our own minibeast hotels and even had time for a play in the tree house!

Thank you to all our parent helpers, we hope you enjoyed yourselves too!

Walk in Adel Woods

We enjoyed our walk in Adel Woods looking at habitats and minibeasts.

Keeping Safe

We had a visit from Yorkshire Water today. We learnt about the water cycle and heard that Yorkshire Water are working in our area. We know we have to keep ourselves safe by not playing near sites where people are working or where there may be machinery. We were very lucky because Mr O'Donnell brought a digger that we could look at and sit inside. Thank you Mr O'Donnell.

Happy New Year

I hope you all had a very happy holiday. The children have come back into school happily and we are looking forward to the new term ahead. here are some photographs to show our pre Christmas activities.
