So, Super Space Day in Year 5 allowed the children to immerse themselves fully in all things space-related. After considering the agenda for the day - toilet rolls, plastic bottles and shoes boxes, the children set about using lots of different skills across a variety of activities. First, they worked out distances of the planets to the sun using toilet paper and attempted to show this using the floor (and walls) of the school hall. Plastic bottles came into play next as groups designed and created aero-dynamic rockets for launching. Our walls are currently adorned with their marvellous creations, but we do hope to launch them soon. Finally, we moved on to changing our simple shoe boxes into stunning solar systems. This was achieved using paints, glue, cocktail sticks, pipe cleaners and all manner of materials that could be fashioned into planets. They are now on display for all to see in the corridor outside our classroom and have been much admired by everybody. It was a busy day and much fun was had by all.
