Welcome to Reception!
Mrs. Winters, Mrs. Conlon, Mrs. Norwood and Mrs. Busby

Welcome to Reception Class! We hope you really enjoy having a look at some of the things we have been doing. We're a really happy bunch!

Here are some pictures of Reception class with their Year 6 buddies on the last day of term. Have a lovely summer!

What a wonderful day! We went to Cannon Hall Farm and we saw so many different animals - pigs and piglets, lamas and alpacas, donkeys and chickens, cows and Highland Cattle, guinea pigs and rabbits. We fed them, we saw them being milked, we stroked them and we washed our hands a lot! We also had great fun on the adventure playground and tube maze.

Thursday 23rd. June

Today we showed off lots of our learning in our class assembly. We talked, ( loudly, clearly and slowly), we acted, we sang, we showed our pictures and we said a poem - we were very excited and very nervous but we made absolutely everyone proud... our families, our teachers, our friends and ourselves!!!!! See the pictures of lots of the things we've been doing.

SPORT'S DAY! We ran, we skipped, we jumped and we balanced eggs on spoons! All of which with a smile .... mostly!

Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Filey! Although it rained, we had a fabulous day at the seaside, building sandcastles, collecting shells, having races and sharing our picnics.

How else can we be fit and healthy? Today we started the day with Natalie - singing and dancing... all kinds of actions songs and pretending and singing and using our imaginations. We felt really happy to start the day! Later we took a trip to the seaside with Mrs. Hourigan, putting our sun cream on and pretending to be crabs and donkeys and finally cooling off with a healthy snack! Can't wait for Filey now!!!!!

It's only Wednesday and we're exhausted! Today UK Sports reminded us about the "Eatwell Plate" along with the importance of drinking water, exercising and getting good sleep!  We played some games and completed another mile walking... we're getting good at this! In the afternoon we had two lady Dental Nurses and found out about how to look after our teeth properly, especially as one or two teeth are starting to wobble!

We have continued to learn about fitness and well-being in all kinds of ways. We learned that relaxing and being happy are very important in feeling well. So we all enjoyed listening to Niamh sing for us. We know that to be good at something we have to try, try and try again!

We also loved spending time on our bikes and scooters... we thought about keeping ourselves safe, by looking out for others and of course wearing our helmets and sun-cream in this glorious weather!

What an exciting start to our new half term - Focus on Fitness! After warming up with the whole school to a "Wake -Up Shake -Up" routine we were entertained by Ash a professional footballer who amazed us with his skills. We later were shown some of the skills and had a go ourselves.

After this we did some serious learning with Janet from St. John's Ambulance, learning all about First Aid and what to do in an emergency! And it's only Monday!

What a busy week! We're all exhausted!

We have spent the week asking children their favourite flavour biscuits and jelly, baking biscuits and watching the dough change from ingredients to dough to crispy biscuits in the oven. We created advertising posters, decorations and paper chains to make our stall look nice. We've also been playing with money in readiness for spending our pennies in the market place. We also managed to sell ALL the biscuits and made quite a profit!!!

This new term we have learning about growing and looking at lots of different kinds of seeds -tiny poppy seeds and big, big broad beans. We have planted sunflower seeds and beans and are looking after them to make sure they grow. Some of the beans have already started to grow roots and we are looking forward to being able to measure them once they are a bit bigger.

Jack and the Beanstalk - what a great story. We have been learning to use big grown up mathematical words to describe size - words like taller, shorter, longer, longest. We cut out pictures of Jack, the beanstalk and the giant and did some measuring with cubes to compare the heights.

Thank you for the new adventure playground.

Reception have had great fun exploring the new adventure playground. We have had to use lots of "Fabulous Focus," "Roaring Courage" and "Emily Effort" to conquer new physical challenges. We are growing in our ability to balance as well as getting stronger and learning about being safe and looking out for each other. Great fun!

CAFOD - Make a splash! day.

We spent a special day learning about water and how precious it is. Gary from WATER AID came to our assembly and told us so much about people who do not have enough clean water. We learned about people who do not have clean, fresh water coming out of taps but have to walk and carry water home in buckets for their families! We even had a go at carrying buckets .... it was hard work and we knew how important it was not to drop any! We thought about different ways that we can help these people and also how to save water. It was lots of fun making pictures of raindrops to remind us of this important learning.

In our learning about Jesus we are doing a lot of thinking about The Ten Lepers. We have been learning that God can do miracles, that it is important to say thank you and what we can do when someone is poorly. We have made some puppets to help us tell the story.

World Book Day! What a challenge... we had to come dressed as a word. Some children had great imaginations. We had a pencil, a dinosaur, Belle, cosy, skeleton and many more. Some children read their favourite story to the class, we got new books in the book swap and we loved reading in the library with our buddies.

Oh what fun we had in the snow. We were not expecting it but today we had great fun in the snow. Ten arctic animals had been trapped, frozen inside the ice and we spent a lot of time trying to set them free - we tried spoons, we tried rubbing them, we tried banging them on the floor - the best idea was letting the sun help them melt!

Reception Class Assembly-What a superb assembly from the children! Mrs Cabry was so impressed with her 'little treasures'! Here are some photographs from the assembly for you to enjoy.

Rainbow Factory

Reception Class had a magical day at The Rainbow Factory - a story book wonderland built to "awaken the imagination" in children and adults alike. We spent a very active day involved in a variety of story based activities including - drama, taking on the roles of giants, witches and wolves - art, creating gingerbread candy covered houses - speaking and listening, describing amazing models from classic story scenes - drawing, favourite parts of Hansel and Gretel.... all interspersed with good old fashioned songs, action rhymes and games. The children were fabulous and made the most of the day. We were really proud of you all.

A world of shapes

We have been finding out all about shapes, they are everywhere! We made shape monsters and we went on a shape hunt around school, and we made shapes in the playground with sticks that we'd brought in from home.

Happy and healthy New Year!

We started our new term with a focus on Health and Well-Being and making New Year Resolutions to be the best that we can be! We started our week with Mr. Bloomfield, our sport's coach putting us through our paces. We spent a lot of time sorting healthy and unhealthy foods and activities, before, the best part of the week, making and tasting both fruit and vegetable smoothies!
